How to play
Wordlord turns your server's chat into a property market. Every word can be owned, and owners earn rent whenever anyone else says their word. Here's the whole game in five steps.
1. Join
Type /join (or wl join) in any server that has Wordlord. You get 100 coins to start your empire. Your Discord account needs to be at least 90 days old for the starting coins, which keeps alt accounts out of the economy.
Not in your server yet? Add Wordlord to Discord, then see For server admins.
2. Find words
Just chat. When you're the first to say a word nobody owns, it becomes your find 馃攳. Wordlord reacts to your message so you know, and the word is reserved for you for 24 hours. Nobody else can buy it during that time.
- Words need at least 3 letters.
- You can hold up to 30 open finds per server.
- Slurs and NSFW words can't be owned, not even stretched or misspelt.
- Even the busiest words (the, hai, lol) can be owned. They're prime words: they cost 150 coins, you can claim one a day, and their owners tend to price them high, because everyone says them. The list follows real chat: at each season end, words that people on global servers say as much as a typical prime word become prime, and prime words nobody says step down.
- Stretched words count as the word: heeelllooo is hello. A likely typo (becuase) can't be owned; it pays 50% rent to the word it misspells, if someone owns it.
3. Claim the good ones
/finds lists your finds and how often other people have said each one since you found it. The busy ones earn the most rent. Buy one with /claim word. The price depends on the word's tier:
| Tier | What it is | Price | Rent per use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | Unusual words | 10 coins | 1.125 |
| Normal | Everyday words | 25 coins | 0.75 |
| Popular | Very common words | 60 coins | 0.75 |
| Prime | The most-said words | 150 coins, or at the daily auction | 0.75 |
When a find expires unclaimed, the word goes back on the market for anyone. You can own up to 25 words per server.
4. Collect rent
Every time someone else says your word, the bank pays you rent. Fractions are paid by chance, so a 0.75 rent pays 1 coin three times out of four. Nobody ever pays coins to talk, and people who haven't joined still earn you rent.
Rent lands in your rent box, not straight in your wallet. Empty it with /collect: you get a rent report of who paid you for what. The box holds 12 hours of rent, and anything older spills back to the bank, so check in a couple of times a day. Collecting on consecutive days builds a streak with its own titles. If you're short on tax day, the tax comes out of your box first.
Rent from one person on one word pays at most once an hour, and fades if the same person keeps paying you all day. Lots of different people saying your word is how you get rich. See Fair play.
5. Set prices, pay tax, fight takeovers
Each word you own has a price, which starts at what you paid. Every day you pay 2% of it in property tax. Anyone can take your word with /takeover by paying your price plus a 15% fee: you get your price, the fee disappears.
- A high price protects a good word but costs more tax.
- A low price is cheap to keep but easy to steal.
- Price rises with
/pricetake effect at the next hourly tick, so you can't dodge a takeover at the last second. Cuts apply straight away. - A word you just bought is shielded for 2 hours, so you have time to set its price.
- After a takeover the word is shielded for 12 hours.
- If you can't pay the tax, the word is foreclosed and goes back on the market.
- Own every word of a street and their tax drops 30%.
6. Every day
Hunt the Lost Deeds, bid at the daily auction, run your secret scheme, and if you're feeling lucky, try the games.
That's the game. Check your empire anytime with /profile and /rent, or log in to the dashboard.
